WATCH: Stars singalong to The South Bank Show theme ahead of new series
A host of big names have paid tribute to The South Bank Show ahead of the show’s return to Sky Arts tomorrow, Wednesday June 15.
Stars including comedians Frank Skinner, Eddie Izzard and Ronni Ancona, actor Jason Watkins, author Kathy Lette and opera stars Lesley Garrett and Angel Blue all sang-along to the show’s iconic theme tune (with varying success) during The South Bank Sky Arts Awards, which took place two weeks ago on June 3.
The South Bank Show famously features a variation on Paganini’s Caprice No.24 as the opening theme in every episode.
Originally produced for ITV between 1978 and 2010, Sky Arts resurrected the television arts magazine show in 2012. It has been presented by creator Melvyn Bragg since the show’s premiere.
The upcoming series will feature music production duo Sly and Robbie, opera star Joyce DiDonato, screenwriter Russell T Davies, actor Benedict Cumberbatch, dance company Ballet Black and celebrated poet and author Jackie Kay.
