Simon Bird confirms The Inbetweeners is over
Simon Bird has confirmed that “The Inbetweeners is over”.
We’ve followed Will, Simon, Jay and Neil through their tragically awkward teenage years since 2008, the show having run for a total of three series and also giving birth to two equally outrageous movies. The British sitcom has given us some good laughs, not to mention all of those legendary quotes, but now it seems we must finally say goodbye.
Simon Bird, who starred as Will MacKenzie on the show, has said there is not a reunion on the cards. He told The Guardian: “I can confirm The Inbetweeners is over.”
Despite starring in a number of other shows, including Channel 4’s Friday Night Dinner and Chickens, Simon also admitted that fans will always think of him as Will. The actor revealed that he is still often heckled with some of the show’s best-known one liners.
“Bus w**ker. Briefcase w**ker. All the w**kers,” he said. “Sometimes just plain old w**ker.”
“I’ve got no right to complain. To be in a show that people love and quote back at you is the reason you get into this business. I feel privileged to have that experience.”
It was recently rumoured that the sitcom might return instead with an alternative cast. Peter Langenberg from Banijay UK, the production company behind the teen comedy, recently revealed: “It’s not feasible for the cast to reprise their roles at that stage of life.”
He told Broadcast: “But the brand is so strong that I’m definitely interested in seeing if we could take a new spin on it.”
However, we’re not too sure anyone will ever be able to replicate the greatness of these boys:
