Scarlett Moffatt’s Host The Week axed after just one episode
New Channel 4 show Host The Week has been axed after the first episode failed to rake in enough viewers.
The improvised comedy chat show featured Gogglebox‘s Scarlett Moffatt as host when the series premiered last Thursday. However, after pulling in a disappointing 45,0000 viewers, Channel 4 made the decision to axe the programme completely.
A Channel 4 spokesperson told The Sun newspaper: “We’re brave enough to take risks with innovative programme ideas but also to acknowledge they don’t all work and move on.”
Meanwhile, a source added: “Channel 4 tried to give something new a go but it hasn’t worked on any level. It did not land with viewers and they’ve decided to not only leave the second episode, but completely pack in the show.
“It’s unfortunate for Scarlett as she ends up the only host of the show that didn’t work from the word go.”
The first episode of Host The Week saw I’m A Celebrity‘s Queen of the Jungle Scarlett thrown in the deep end as she was told to recreate shows such as the Channel 4 News and Blind Date. The star had to improvise as presenter or contestant for each sketch without any preparation, rehearsals or script. Rather, comics and improvisers helped by guiding the host through the show.
The cancellation of the series means any future plans for the show, including filming with the likes of Jack Whitehall, have been abandoned.
