Martin Freeman and wife receive death threats from Sherlock fans
Sherlock star Martin Freeman and his wife Amanda Abbington have been receiving death threats.
Freeman, who plays Dr John Watson in the BBC drama, and Abbington, who plays his on-screen wife Mary Morstan, were forced to call the police after chilling threats to their lives were posted online.
“Shall we start prepping for a possible funeral?”, read the caption to a shocking picture of a baseball bat wrapped with barbed wire.
Another anonymous message posted online accused the real life and on-screen couple of giving their Sherlock co-star Benedict Cumberbatch “a bad name”.
“Both Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington are starting to give Benedict and all his fans a bad name! They both seriously just need to shut up and f***ing die already!”, read the message.
Sherlock fans and those referring to themselves as Cumberbitches already have a reputation for being obsessive, and these are not the first threats to be sent to Abbington, who responded to these particular comments via Twitter.
”To the coward who’s since shut this blog down. We’ve already informed the police sweetie. They have all the info,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, a source close to Freeman and Abbington told The Sun:
”These messages were incredibly sinister and they are well aware of the obsessive nature of a certain number of Benedict fans. Hopefully whoever is behind this will be caught and prosecuted”.
