Geordie Shore’s Marnie Simpson reveals she had an abortion at age of 19
Geordie Shore star Marnie Simpson has opened up about the pregnancy termination she had at the age of 19.
Speaking to OK! Magazine, Marnie revealed how she wasn’t at the right stage in her life to raise a child when she fell pregnant six years ago. At the time the star was with Big Brother winner Anthony Hutton, who Marnie insisted was incredibly supportive of her decision to not go ahead with the pregnancy.
She said: “I blurted it out to Anthony straight away but I didn’t know whether I’d done the right thing. I was 19 and he was 29. Maybe he wanted a baby.
“As for me, I couldn’t get my own life sorted out, let alone look after a child.
“After some thinking, it became clear that I had to have the pregnancy terminated.
“At the time, it felt like a very clinical decision and I don’t remember feeling very emotional about it. An abortion was the only way out and Anthony had agreed he would stand by me whatever my decision.”
The 25-year-old has no regrets over her decision, although Marnie did admit she sometimes wonders what life would have been like if she had chosen to become a mother at a young age.
In her autobiography Stripped Bare, she said: “I’ve never regretted choosing an abortion but I did block it out for a long time.
“Sometimes, usually if I’m feeling low, I do ask, what if?
“I honestly can’t imagine how my life would have turned out.
“I reckon if I were to get pregnant now, I’d keep the baby because I’m older and in a different place in my life.”
Talking about the writing process for her book, the Celebrity Big Brother star confessed it was sometimes hard to reflect on her past experiences but she hopes the autobiography might help any readers in a similar situation.
She said: “It wasn’t the nicest thing to look back on but I felt OK talking about it.
“I have a lot of young fans, so I wanted to be honest about what I went through as it might help someone going through the same thing.”
Geordie Shore returns this summer on MTV.
