Ed Balls confirmed for Strictly Come Dancing 2016
The people behind Strictly Come Dancing‘s social media presence are winning the internet today. Announcing that the first celebrity confirmed to compete in the 2016 edition of the TV dancing contest would be none other than former shadow chancellor Ed Balls, the @BBCStricly account gave a knowing nod to his infamous “Ed Balls” tweet in 2011:

Speaking to Chris Evans on the Radio 2 breakfast show this morning, Balls admitted he was “scared to death”, but that competing in the show was “a dream come true”.
“From the beginning of September, I’m definitely going to be doing 12 hours a week training but everybody says I’ll have to do quite a few more hours than that,” he said. “Our family have been massive fans of Strictly for years. I’ve taken the view that if you have a midlife crisis, make sure you plan it well and enjoy every minute.”
“It’s a dream come true”, Balls continued. “And to do Len [Goodman]’s last series, my only hope is it stays a dream and doesn’t become a nightmare”.
Meanwhile, the internet has reacted to the news of Balls’ Strictly participation with inevitable humour:
@bbcstrictly sounds like someone won Cards Against Humanity 😜

We look forward to announcing who Balls’s competition will be as and when more contestants for this year’s Strictly are confirmed.
The new series of Strictly Come Dancing launches on BBC One later this year.
