The Next Christopher Nolan Movie Slated for 2017
Cult director Christopher Nolan’s next – currently untitled – feature has been slated for a 2017 release.
The Batman Begins and Inception director is to face his next challenge following the mammoth success of his Interstellar last year which brought in $673 million worldwide. And apparently this has in no way hindered the director, with Warner Bros. picking up the film and announcing it – with next to no information about the feature – as airing from July 21 of that year.
The studio has all rights on the new project but has given film fans no details about the feature, with the dating announcement being the first news of the project. They have handled all three films in Nolan’s Dark Knight – Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises — along with his 2010 sci-fi hit Inception, the trilogy grossing $2.45 billion worldwide with Inception taking in over $800 million, making it no surprise that they would want to snap up the next feature to come from the director.
However, when it came to distribution Warner Bros. had a fight on their hands with the studio only being responsible for the international rollout, while Paramount landed the domestic release.
Typically Nolan produces through his Syncopy label with spouse Emma Thomas, suggesting the next project could be done the same way. He similarly directed and had screenwriting credits on the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, Interstellar and his 2006 drama The Prestige – again, suggesting that Nolan may have a writing credit in addition to a directing and production credit for the upcoming project. He may even – given his recent trend – bring on his brother Jonathan Nolan again to co-write the script, as he did with Interstellar – at this stage, any speculation is possible.
And to top it all, the Nolan movie is the fourth title to be dated for July 21, 2017, following Universal’s Pitch Perfect 3, EuropaCorp’s Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets and an untitled Blue Sky animation project from Fox. So, you may want make sure you’re free that weekend to begin your mammoth cinema session. Don’t say you weren’t warned!
