David Schwimmer for Channel 4 Sitcom
Looks like F.R.I.E.N.D.S fans are going to have to PIVOT back over to Channel 4 (the original British home for F.R.I.E.N.D.S) now that Ross Geller aka David Schwimmer has been confirmed to be joining a new Channel 4 sitcom.
Morning is Broken, a six-episode British comedy, centres around a failing breakfast TV show and comes from Julia Davis, who was behind BBC Three’s Nighty Night and Hunderby on Sky Atlantic and Nick Mohammed (The King is Dead).
Schwimmer will play an American TV producer hired to rescue the breakfast show, which stars Davis herself as ‘Queen of Daytime’ Gail Sinclair and Mohammed, who will portray one of Gail’s co-presenters.
Rachel Springett, Channel 4’s commissioning editor for comedy, said: “Julia is undoubtedly one of our most talented comedic writers and actresses and it’s a testament to the quality of her writing that she can attract such a big star.”
However, Schwimmer is of course the second former F.R.I.E.N.D. to star in a British comedy, following Matt LeBlanc’s Episodes co-produced by the BBC and Showtime.
Since playing Ross, Schwimmer has mostly occupied himself with stage work and film directing, though has had a successful voice role in the Madagascar series. He is, however, set to star as Robert Kardashian in FX’s upcoming miniseries American Crime Story.
Morning is Broken is expected to air early 2016.
