Better Call Saul creators confirm fan theory: Breaking Bad favourite will star in Season 3
Fans are full of crazy theories – especially fans as committed as those Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul addicts. It’s not so frequent, though, for fan theories to be even close to accurate; let alone completely on point.
Basically, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul creator Vince Gilligan is known for peppering his densely woven shows with puzzles and clues for his especially eagle-eyed viewers. And just as they did with the second season of Breaking Bad, the writing staff on Better Call Saul put clues in their episode titles this year.
Gilligan and co-creator Peter Gould told Vanity Fair that they were hoping to unveil the mystery “sometime over the summer”, but their brainy fans were waaay ahead of them.
When this Twitter user wrote down the titles of each episode of the latest season of BCS, the first letters of each seemed to reveal a rather tantalising anagram…

Yep, that spells “FRINGSBACK”. You have our permission to squeal.
A source at Vanity Fair spoke with Gould and Gilligan yesterday morning to clear up Gus Fring’s mysterious almost-appearance in the BCS‘s season two finale, and whether this clue confirms Giancarlo Esposito will be reprising his role next season. Here’s what they had to say:
~
Peter Gould: We were hoping it would be more of an open question at this point. We had this—to us—this very bright idea of encoding the words “Fring’s Back” in the episode titles. We worked very hard; more than that, the folks in our office, Jenn Carroll and Ariel Levine, worked very, very hard trying to help us figure that out. And we thought we’d be revealing it maybe sometime over the summer. I guess we really underestimated the genius and hard work of our fans.
Vince Gilligan: And their attention to detail, and God bless them for it.
Gould: It’s hard to complain about people paying attention to every aspect of the show. It certainly reminds us again that we better keep all our i’s dotted and our t’s crossed in every aspect of the show.
~
We certainly hope the iconic character will be reappearing on our screens very soon. Stay tuned for more updates as we hear them!
